Barbados Cup organiser Karl Hale believes players like Darian King (pictured) can drive up the interest of tennis in the region.

At least one man thinks the Caribbean can be the next wellspring for tennis.

Renowned tennis administrator Karl Hale believes the Barbados Cup is just the start of bigger things to come, having said that this region can eventually play host to professional ATP events.

Hale expressed the view ahead of yesterday’s start to his inaugural Barbados Cup event that features an ITF junior tournament plus a big exhibition match between Bajan ace Darian King and American Jesse Witten.

“I am from Jamaica originally, and the past couple years I started a plan to develop tennis in this region with more ITF junior tournaments, professional events and exhibition matches all across the Caribbean with the hope of promoting the sport and increasing the facilities here,” Hale said. (JM)
